Top Democratic Fundraiser Jumps Ship to Support McCain

During the Republican Convention, the 2000 Democratic Vice Presidential candidate, Senator Joe Lieberman announced his support for John McCain. Today, a leading Member of the Democratic National Committee’s Platform Committee, Democrats Abroad chapter, and a top Hillary Clinton fundraiser, Lynn Forester de Rothschild, stated she will endorse John McCain for president. On Fox News, Ms. Rothschild, a life-long democrat said, “I believe that Barack Obama with, and Nancy Pelosi and Howard Dean have taken the Democratic Party too far to the left. I’m not comfortable there.”

At a McCain campaign press conference in Washington, D.C., Lynn de Rothschild said “It is the last place in the world I thought I would be in October 2008.”

“We have got to make the right choice about who goes to the White House. So this decision to vote Republican for the first time in my life has been after a lot of thought. I have looked at all four candidates very carefully and I have no question about what I am doing today.”

According to the New York Times, Ms. de Rothschild concluded her remarks by saying, “Right now I feel a little bit like Ronald Reagan who said, ‘I didn’t leave the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party left me.’ “
