Worker Unions Pay Politicians, Not Workers!

The widely accepted belief that big business owns Washington, D.C. is not just a fabrication, but an outright lie! Data obtained from the Center for Responsive Politics clearly shows America’s unions are the big spenders padding politicians’ pocketbooks in Washington, D.C. As of July 28, 2008, unions contributed almost 531 million dollars to Democrats and nearly 145 million dollars to Republicans.  Based the Federal Election Commission’s data, the Center for Responsive Politics reported that unions in the United States accounted for over 45 percent of the 1.5 billion dollars contributed to politicians.

Many Americans may be surprised to find out that the top contributor to politicians is not a privately owned corporation, but the union of American Federation of County, State, and Municipal Employees.  As a matter of fact, 19 of the top 25 political contributors were unions, including the National Education Association, American Association for Justice, American Federation of Teachers, Service Employees International Union, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, United Auto Workers, and the Teamsters Union. Only six privately owned businesses were in the top 25.

And just who is the big beneficiary of the almost 3/4 billion bucks from the unions? The workers? No, the Democratic Party. Now, can you Imagine what the unions could do for the workers if they spent the 676 million dollars on their employees instead of politicians?
