Obama Sought Support of Democratic Socialists of America

Senator Obama has been tagged as the most liberal democrat in the U.S. Senate and it seems his earliest political ties included the Chicago Democratic Socialists of America (CDSA). During a meeting with the organization in the fall of 1995, Mr. Obama sought the support of the Chicago Democratic Socialists of America’s “New Party” for his first run for political office.  According to the CDSA’s New Party update in the September-October 1995 timeframe, “Four political candidates were ‘there’ seeking NP support.”

The Chicago Democratic Socialists of America’s New Party Update is quoted in full below.

Chicago New Party Update

by Bruce Bentley

About 50 activists attended the Chicago New Party membership meeting in July. The purpose of the meeting was to update members on local activities and to hear appeals for NP support from four potential political candidates. The NP is being very active in organization building and politics. There are 300 members in Chicago. In order to build an organizational and financial base the NP is sponsoring house parties. Locally it has been successful both fiscally and in building a grassroots base. Nationwide it has resulted in 1000 people committed to monthly contributions. The NP’s political strategy is to support progressive candidates in elections only if they have a concrete chance to “win”. This has resulted in a winning ratio of 77 of 110 elections. Candidates must be approved via a NP political committee. Once approved, candidates must sign a contract with the NP. The contract mandates that they must have a visible and active relationship with the NP.

The political entourage included Alderman Michael Chandler, William Delgado, chief of staff for State Rep Miguel del Valle, and spokespersons for State Sen. Alice Palmer, Sonya Sanchez, chief of staff for State Sen. Jesse Garcia, who is running for State Rep in Garcia’s District; and Barack Obama, chief of staff for State Sen. Alice Palmer. Obama is running for Palmer’s vacant seat.

Michael Chandler thanked the NP for its support in his electoral victory. His achievements to date included obtaining an increase of 30 police in the 24th Ward, citizen involvement in street clean-up and establishment of a 24th Ward Organization. William Delgado is exploring whether to run for State Rep in the 3rd District. He is a former social worker and spoke with compassion and dynamism. He considers himself a community activist who wants to be an advocate for change in the community. His presence in political office would be a benefit to the democratic left.

Indeed it was an exciting evening because the NP has two crucial components. First, the NP is a true “Rainbow Coalition” consisting of both young and aged African-Americans, Hispanics and Caucasians. Although ACORN and SEIU Local 880 were the harbingers of the NP there was a strong presence of CoC and DSA (15% DSA). Moreover a good 8% were younger Generation X’ers who are critically needed. A more diverse representation of Labor is missing. Secondly, the NP is taking “action.” Four political candidates were “there” seeking NP support. The NP is strategically organizing via house parties and tactically entering only elections that they can win. Furthermore they are organizing a campaign on the “Living Wage Ordinance” in the Chicago City Council.

61 Nobel Laureates Support Obama

According to a few newspapers around the nation, 61 Nobel Laureates have signed a letter endorsing Senator Barack Obama for president. Considering there are hundreds of them around the world, I’m not really sure it’s significant news.

What is significant are the racist remarks made by Dr. James D. Watson, one of the laureates endorsing Senator Obama. In 2007, the UK Times Online reported , “The 79-year-old geneticist said he was ‘inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa’ because ‘all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours – whereas all the testing says not really.'” “He said he hoped that everyone was equal, but countered that ‘people who have to deal with black employees find this not true’”. Of course, Dr. Watson, a life-long Democrat and secular humanist, did apologize for his remarks.

Unveiled: Democrats’ Racist Past

by Frances Rice

“It was Democrats who started the Ku Klux Klan that became the terrorist arm of the Democratic Party to lynch and terrorize Republicans-black and white. Democrats passed those discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws and fought every piece of civil rights legislation from the 1860’s to the 1960’s. Shamefully, Democrats fought against anti-lynching laws, and when the Democrats regained control of Congress in 1892, they passed the Repeal Act of 1894 that overturned civil right laws enacted by Republicans. Republicans founded the HCBU’s and started the NAACP to counter the racist practices of the Democrats. It took Republicans six decades to finally enact civil rights laws in the 1950’s and 1960’s, over the objection of Democrats.”

LA NOW Prez on Palin: ‘America, This is What a Feminist Looks Like
ABC News

by Jake Tapper
October 06, 2008 11:45 AM

October 6, 2008 – ABC News reported President of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Organization for Women, Ms. Shelly Mandell, supports McCain and Palin. The following is a quote from ABC News:

“Make no mistake,” Mandell said. “I’m a life-long Democrat … I don’t agree with Gov. Palin on several issues.” And yet, she said, “I know Sarah Palin cares about women’s rights, she cares about equality, she cares about equal pay, and as Vice President she will fight for it. She cares about our children and she cares about women’s lives. She’s an athlete and she knows what Title Nine did for girls like her.”

“It is an honor to call her sister,” Mandell said as she handed the microphone over to Palin, who would accuse Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., of “palling around with terrorists.”

“America,” Mandell said, “this is what a feminist looks like.”

What Obama and the Media Forgot to Tell America about the Keating Five

1. Four of the Keating Five were democrats. Three of the democrats involved were found guilty of ethics violations with Senator Alan Cranston (Democrat – California) censured.

2. Senators McCain (Repbulican – Arizona) and Glenn (Democrat – Ohio) were exonerated. The Boston Globe in a February 28, 2008 article wrote, “The Senate Ethics Committee determined that McCain [Republican], along with then-Senator John Glenn [Democrat] of Ohio, ‘exercised poor judgment.’ The committee found that others had gone further, ruling that [Dennis] DeConcini [Democrat-Arizona] and Senator Donald Riegle [Democrat] of Michigan “gave the appearance of being improper” and recommending Senator Alan Cranston [democrat] of California for censure.”

3. Mr. Robert Bennett, the Senate Ethics lawyer who investigated Senator McCain. stated, in February 2008 on the Hannity and Colmes show that, “First, I should tell your listeners I’m a registered Democrat, so I’m not on (McCain’s) side of a lot of issues. But I investigated John McCain for a year and a half, at least, when I was special counsel to the Senate Ethics Committee in the Keating Five. … And if there is one thing I am absolutely confident of, it is John McCain is an honest man. I recommended to the Senate Ethics Committee that he be cut out of the case, that there was no evidence against him.”

Obama Campaign Hits Back at McCain with Keating Five Web Video

by Julianna Goldman

October 6, 2008

“The difference here is clear: John McCain has been open and honest about the Keating matter, and even the Democratic special counsel in charge recommended that Senator McCain be completely exonerated.”

“By contrast, Barack Obama has been fundamentally dishonest about his friendship and work with the unrepentant terrorist William Ayers, whose radical group bombed the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol.” (Read the full story)

How close were Barack Obama and Tony Rezko?
by Edward McClelland
February 1, 2008

“Antoin “Tony” Rezko arrived in Chicago from Syria in 1971.

It was almost inevitable that Obama, as a Chicago politician, would spend a lot of quality time with someone like recently jailed Rezko. But that doesn’t excuse bad judgment.

Rezko, after all, built part of his fortune by exploiting the black community that Obama had served in the state Senate, and by milking government programs meant to benefit black-owned businesses. But Obama took Rezko’s money even after the businessman was sued by the city of Chicago for failing to heat his low-income apartments, and even after Rezko was caught using a black business partner to obtain a minority set-aside for a fast-food franchise at O’Hare Airport.”

The Washington Times
By Jennifer Haberkorn
Wednesday, October 1, 2008

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has directed nearly $100,000 from her political action committee to her husband’s real estate and investment firm over the past decade, a practice of paying a spouse with political donations that she voted to ban last year.

Financial Leasing Services Inc. (FLS), owned by Paul F. Pelosi, has received $99,000 in rent, utilities and accounting fees from the speaker’s “PAC to the Future” over the PAC’s nine-year history.” (Read the full story)

The Associated Press

Dems brought us to this point
Canada Free Press
By Grant Swank
Tuesday, September 30, 2008

If B. Hussein Obama is elected, we will have more and more of what the US simply cannot tolerate.

It will be more and more of Nancy Pelosi.. Can America withstand another assault from this brainless “leader” who knows not how to bring together those who bow before her throne?

She is worn and tattered. She promised the USA within the first 100 days of her governing that she would remake this country. We are still waiting as she instead turns the nation inside out.” (Read the full story)

An ACORN Falls from the Tree
Canada Free Press
By Ken Blackwell
Tuesday, September 30, 2008

As negotiations over Congress’s emergency rescue bill continued over the weekend, repeated rumors leaked out that the Democrats were trying to funnel money to a hyper-partisan organization involved in criminal voter fraud. I’m speaking of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now — known by its acronym, ACORN. Although ACORN was cut from the final legislation, it’s important to understand this organization and its long history with, of all people, Barack Obama. And it’s important to see how partisan this emergency legislation has become.” (Read the full story)

Obama Grant Being Probed
Chicago Sun-Times

September 25, 2008

“A $100,000 state grant for a botanic garden in Englewood that then-state Sen. Barack Obama awarded in 2001 to a group headed by a onetime campaign volunteer is now under investigation by the Illinois attorney general amid new questions, prompted by Chicago Sun-Times reports, about whether the money might have been misspent.

The garden was never built. And now state records obtained by the Sun-Times show $65,000 of the grant money went to the wife of Kenny B. Smith, the Obama 2000 congressional campaign volunteer who heads the Chicago Better Housing Association, which was in charge of the project for the blighted South Side neighborhood.” (Read the full story)

The top election official in a key swing state that is sure to play a huge role in the upcoming presidential election has rejected absentee ballots for thousands of Republicans.
